Walt Disney World Travel: Will You Have To Start Paying For Fastpass?

It’s something that a lot of Disney fans dread, but also something they can’t help but wonder as well. There’s been a lot of speculation as to whether or not Walt Disney World and Disneyland will start charging for their Fastpass services. This comes after reports that say Disneyland Paris will start charging for access to expediated lines on a ride-by-ride basis. Here’s what you need to know.

It’s not enough that you have to pay for your ticket to Disney (with costs rising each year), along with the other food, gifts, and photos that you end up shilling on during your stay, but it looks like the company wants to squeeze another penny (or even a dollar) out of guests each time you use their Fastpass service.

Across the pond, Disneyland Paris has announced that starting this summer, they will no longer use their complimentary Fastpass program. Instead, they will start charging those who want to skip the line a little faster. They will soon launch the Disney Premier Access program.

According to the theme park, the new service will help parkgoers “enjoy the ability to skip the regular queue line” for thrill rides, classic attractions, and more.

What’s more, a free service called Standby Pass, which virtually holds your spot in ride lines while you walk around the theme park, is also being introduced.

For the premier access program, you will have to “book an assigned time slot” for the attraction you wish to visit, and then pay between approximately $9 (8€) and $18 (15€) per person, per ride.

“As we continue to assess many aspects of our business and make changes where they are needed for both the current environment and the future of our resort, the addition of Standby Pass and Disney Premier Access will provide alternative services for our guests and the previous FASTPASS service at Disneyland Paris will not be returning,” the Disneyland Paris web site reads.

Back over at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla. some eagle-eyed fans have noticed that the FastPass kiosks have been uncovered and turned on. However, Disney has remained rather quiet on whether or not they will bring back this skip-the-line feature in the near future.
